IPCE Module from Solartron Analytical for Solar Cells & Photoelectrochemistry
A new IPCE module is now available from Solartron Analytical for Quantum Efficiency measurements using the Modulab XM PhotoEchem. It’s available as a complete package, or as an add-on module for existing PhotoEchem systems.
What is IPCE?
IPCE (Incident Photon to Current Efficiency) or Quantum Efficiency (QE) determines the cell efficiency as a function of wavelength. You can then calculate the maximum theoretical short circuit current density. This is critical in all areas of research involving the conversion of light to power:
- Solar cells
- Photoelectrochemical water splitting
With IPCE you can determine the wavelength dependence of the cell and correlate the data with solar simulator measurements.
White Light Bias
White light bias is included as standard.
This is important when measuring certain cells, such as organic cells, which are intensity dependent. In these cases, accurate results can only be acquired by determining the intensity at which the IPCE response is independent of white light bias. By rejecting current measured due to white bias, you can measure just the response of the cell due to the monochromatic source.
Usually this is achieved with a light chopper and lock-in amplifier, which can be laborious. With the IPCE module, bias rejection is part of the system and is performed automatically, making it much easier to use whenever you need to.
