Thermo Scientific Axia ChemiSEM

Thermo Scientific Axia ChemiSEM

Easy-to-use SEM with live EDS quantitative elemental mapping

The Axia ChemiSEM is designed to make SEM more accessible and easier to use, with convenient automated features.

Unlike traditional SEMs, it collects EDS data continuously in the background. Unique algorithms process SEM and EDS signals simultaneously, so you can view the morphology and quantitative elemental composition of a sample together, in real time.

  • Live quantitative elemental mapping – Always-on EDS means you can view elemental information at any time without switching techniques.
  • Easy to get started – The platform is always ready to image. Helpful guidance, auto-alignment and automated features enable you to focus on your data, not on operating the instrument.
  • Large, flexible chamber – For samples up 10kg, with x-y movement, and fully opening door for awkward samples.
  • Excellent imaging performance – For a wide range of applications, including insulating samples with Low Vac operation and advanced beam scanning for high-fidelity imaging.
  • Software for diverse applications – Handle advanced applications with system automation options such as Thermo Scientific Maps, and customise workflow development with AutoScript.
  • Easy maintenance – Source exchange can be completed easily by users of any experience level. Straightforward design gives you high up-time, with rapid service when attention is needed.

Blue Scientific is the official distributor to the industrial sector in the UK and Ireland.

Example Images

SEM image of coatings

Colour coatings (zinc silicate) incorporating Ba, Ti, S fillers and iron traces imaged with the retractable BSE detector. Always-on EDS provides instant access to the chemical variations of the fillers.

Instant quantitative elemental mapping highlights Al, Mg and Ti contaminants that would otherwise remain unnoticed.

SEM EDS image of aluminium alloy

Chrome plated aluminum alloy. The difference between the copper and nickel coatings would not normally be evident with a BSE detector because of the similar atomic number. With the Axia ChemiSEM, elemental information from EDS is always instantly available.

Geological Sample Imaged with SEM

Montage of a geological sample showing live quantitative elemental information, made up of 13×13 frames. The navigation montage collects multiple images and combines them automatically for imaging large areas. This visualises chemical variability within the grains over a large thin section. Areas of interest can then be pinpointed for further analysis.

Colour SEM

Colour SEM

EDS data is collected continuously and can be view live at any time. Using colour to visualise elemental quantification, you can easily gain new insights into your sample. This reveals defects and imperfections that may otherwise go unnoticed. EDS is always on, so you don’t need to switch between techniques. It’s also quicker – compared to traditional EDS and SEM techniques, you can access elemental information 2-4 times faster.

High Temperature SEM

High Temperatures

Study samples in-situ at high temperatures, to see how they react in real-world conditions. Observe the behavior of materials as they re-crystallise, melt, deform or react in the presence of heat

SEM Particle Analysis

Particle Analysis

Characterise powders and particles in nanomaterials research and quality control, with the nanometre-scale resolution and superior imaging of electron microscopy.

Cathodoluminescence image of sandstone

Cathodoluminescence (CL) analyses the emission of light from a material when it’s excited by an electron beam. The signal is captured by a specialized CL detector, and to gain information about composition, crystal defects and photonic properties.
